New Europe Market Win

The Last Divorce of Communism, a 6-episode series project by the creators of Soviet Jeans, Stanislavs Tokalovs and Teodora Markova, received the Best Pre-Development Award for TV series at NEW EUROPE MARKET in Zagreb.

This comedy-drama follows an ordinary couple in 1988 Soviet Riga who decide to get a sham divorce to outsmart USSR housing policies and keep their apartment in the city center. Their plan is to live separately and meet secretly until their daughter reaches the age of majority, at which point they could transfer the apartment to her. What they didn’t expect was to be closely monitored by the Housing Commission, forcing them to prove their divorce is genuine—even by finding new partners.

The project is produced by the Latvian studio Tasse Film.
